Master Photographer wins accolades in regional awards

The work of Mandy Newby from The Darkroom Photography (based in East Devon) has been recognised in the Master Photographer’s Association (MPA) 2022 regional awards, with the presentation of five Merits, one Finalist title and not just one but two Winners titles, Southern Region, Equine Photographer Of The Year 2022 and Southern Region, Pet Photographer Of the Year 2022.

Over one thousand photographs were entered into the MPA Regional Awards from a worldwide membership of professional photographers. Entrants compete within their respective geographic areas and have to score highly for both creativity and technical skill in order to win accolades.

The standard is always high and the 2022 competition raised the bar even further as each image was scrutinised by three judges, each one of them a highly respected “Fellow” of the MPA.

Entries were divided into categories by the judges who then awarded accolades to the best images, based on both technical and creative skills. The competition is only open to Qualified members of the MPA and so the standard required to gain recognition is extremely high.

Speaking after the awards, Paul Cooper FMPA (Director of qualifications) said “The regional awards are always fiercely contested, and so to have your work recognised by the judges is incredibly hard.”

This year the announcements were made “virtually” via the MPA’s own online membership platform through a live-streamed video link to all members with live participation from the winners as they received their distinctions.

Speaking after receiving their awards, Mandy said “ Winning Pet Photographer Of The Year with our very own Penny, my daughters very beautiful Cocker Spaniel makes it all the more special. It is also a delight to be recognised for my work in equine photography and with an exceptionally special Andalusian stallion too, Estribilho of the Netherlands”.

Ray Lowe FMPA, Chairman of the MPA commented: “The standard of photography we have seen this year is outstanding. Despite the reduced opportunities for shooting due to the pandemic our members have once again proved that they are at the top of their game by producing world-class work.”
